ASPAH Conference, 23-24th October at Victoria College of the Arts

collage: reflection-on-actionI have just spent the weekend in Melbourne, attending and presenting at ASPAH (Australian Society of Performing Arts Healthcare) conference, a small and dedicated group of health care workers  researching ways of keeping artists working well by staying healthy.  I learned much about the performer's voice and the body of the artist, and how to prevent injury.  It was a very intimate and warmly hosted conference, and it was a privilege to be part of the program and to represent the Pyschology and Counselling School at QUT.I presented my research "ImpulseTraining", which emerged from my Masters research "A Mouthful of PIns", an exploration into ritual and impulse as ways of keeping actors resilient and deeply creative. My performative paper seemed to be received very warmly with a significant number of artists, and those who work with artists, wanting more information and discussion around ImpulseTraining, hence this posting. There is a Conference PowerPoint which i will upload over the next few days and until then those of you who requested more information, please send me an email 4change@iinet.net.au and i shall send you the presentation, and you will also find more detailed information in my research link (on the front page of this website) and another article or rather an 'organic document' (it is constantly growing and changing as my research grows) under ImpulseTraining, on the right side of this page. I also have a research blog margibrownash@blogspot which focuses on my PhD research: how does the performative self inform the therapist?Margi
