It such an exciting time

And not just for us, it is an exciting time for many independent artists in Brisbane. So many excellent shows happening...we have Shock Therapy Productions performing right now at Visy Theatre (Forwards... and it has had some fantastic reviews. book through the Brisbane Powerhouse), Danger Ensemble is in rehearsal for their iconic Hamlet (book through Danger Ensemble), The Good Room is working on the third of their experiential trilogy, this time about forgiveness and La Boite is hosting their La Boite HWY, a celebration and discussion of new independent work...and we are heading into our fourth week of rehearsal for our double bill...Eve and He Dreamed a Train...Here is an image from our first season of Eve, back in 2012 at The Old Broad, Metro Arts, downtown Brisbane. Eve is a delicious exploration of belonging and not belonging. Inspired by the brilliant Eve Langley, one of our most under rated writers of Australia, Eve takes some of Eve's actual fiction and turns it into a story of resilience and determination. Directed by Leah Mercer, with performer/musician Travis Ash, Eve is designed by Aaron Barton, who has just recently been nominated for his Scenic Design in the Helpmann Award Nominations 2017.

He Dreamed a Train has had some wonderfully rich rehearsals with some rewriting. Inspired by David Brown's book of the same name (I loved the name so much I borrowed it), Train explores how to belong in transition. We all have to experience death in many ways throughout our lives, and in this play we explore the complexities of family relationships and how we create rituals in order to move forward.

This week we are rehearsing both shows back to back, with a massive change over as the set moves from the world of an old farm house, to Eve's world. It is a wonderful experience to see two of our shows being performed at the same time...our dream of course is to perform all three plays of the trilogy at a festival somewhere in this wide brown land...fingers crossed.
