One of my favourite shows to watch at the end of the day is The Drum on ABC. Yesterday, Gloria Steinem was interviewed… and she presented the viewers with gold. Steinem told us that 7 years ago, three black women started the Black Lives Matter movement:
In 2013, three radical Black organizers — Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors, and Opal Tometi — created a Black-centered political will and movement building project called #BlackLivesMatter. It was in response to the acquittal of Trayvon Martin’s murderer, George Zimmerman. (https://blacklivesmatter.com/herstory/)
Steinem then told us that these three Black organizers based their movement on three simple principles:
1. lead with love
2. low ego/high impact
3. move at the speed of trust

These are profound values and worthy of adopting. Lead with love, reduce your ego, make high impact, and move at the speed of trust.
Thank you Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors and Opal Tometi. These three values could change the world.
Thank you The Drum, a profound evening last night, and one I will not forget easily.
