artists are you wanting a little motivation today?

some ideas from Ellen J Langer 2005 On Becoming an Artist Reinventing Yourself Through Mindful Creativity. Ballantine Books: U.S.A.I found this list on my fridge. Today we are getting a new one, so i have taken the cuttings and photos off the fridge. they are dusty, mildewy,  yet marvellously suggestive. Here is what i gleaned from Langer's book years ago:1. It is possible that once we learn how to 'do' our art form we can sometimes stop experimenting and playing (Langer, 2005, 8)2. in other words we become mindless about our work (Langer, 2005)3. "Nothing is a waste of time of you use the epxeirnece wisely" (Auguste Rodin)4. "I am an artist. I am here to live out loud" (Emile Zola)5. "It is not the language of painters, but the language of nature which one should listen to, the feeling for the things themselves, for reality, is more important than the feeling for pictures" (Vincent Van Gogh)6. "I can't understand why people are frightened of new ideas. I am frightened of old ones" (John Cage)7. 'anything one does every day is important and imposing and everywhere one lives is interesting and beautiful"  (Gertrude Stein)
